Digital Art and Design and Advanced Digital Art and Design is a UC A-G approved course as well as a CTE (Career Technical Education Pathway). The focus of this course is to foster critical and creative problem solvers that are adaptable and insightful no matter the project. Incorporating a project based and "real-world" approach to the work we do in class helps students not only develop their technical skills in software like Adobe CC Illustrator, and Photoshop, but also helps to develop their soft skills in teamwork, communication, meeting deadlines, and professional practices. It is a space on campus to come with an open mind, a place to make things that have meaning, a place to experiment, to tinker, to play.

FEATURED PROJECT
Backpack Redesign Experience
Students in the advanced digital art and design class were tasked with using Design Thinking and an Empathy based approach to re-imagine the backpack experience for a target use. The students did not have limitations of reality put on the projects and as such were able to really get creative. They tackled backpacks for ancient warriors, futuristic planet settlers, famous cartoon characters and much more. This project entails all of the design thinking methodologies of Empathy, Define, Ideation, Prototype, Test and Revise and was accomplished during the distance learning model brought on by the past year of Covid Lockdowns. They had to create marketing, logos, and design features of the backpacks and much more. The students did it with aplomb. I hope you enjoy the samples of their work.
